Mary Fernández

Due to family circumstances, Mari ended up in the kitchen without looking for it.  She and her husband 'Mon' took over the restaurant Mesón El Centro in Puerto de Vega, in the famous Plaza Cupido. With no previous knowledge or background, she started cooking there based on her instincts, memories and the influence of the sea. That was over 30 years ago. Self-taught out of commitment, his cuisine has evolved, always remaining faithful to the sea. About 10 years ago, all of this took on a new dimension when they decided to make a firm commitment to a cuisine linked to the Bay of Biscay.  This change of approach has meant a leap in quality that has earned them well-deserved national recognition.

It has also received a great deal of recognition in its place of birth and residence. In addition to her membership of the prestigious Club de Guisanderas Asturianas, perhaps the most special recognition came in 2022, when she was recognised as a Rural Woman in her own town council. 

Today, they continue to run Mesón El Centro with the same enthusiasm, never ceasing to train and innovate, but never forgetting their roots and the sacred taste of the sea.
