Thanks to the initiative of Ana and her husband Agustín, Lastres has recovered its canning tradition and its anchovies are gaining recognition.

Although originally from Madrid, Ana had always spent her summer holidays in Lastres, the place where she met her husband Agustín and moved to live. Trained as a marketing and commercial management professional, she began her professional life as an advertising sales agent for several national newspaper groups, but ended up taking charge of the grocery shop run by her husband's family in Lastres.

They had the idea of making anchovies to sell in the shop but the project was scaled up and they ended up creating a canning company that in 2020 won the Golden Fork award. The shop's customers, many of them former workers in the local canning factories, each contributed their own trick and now the company has a stable workforce where many of these women, over the age of 50, work.
